EASTER
Treasures Worth the Trudge

I don't think my kids ever participated in an Easter egg hunt. I always did a hunt of our own on Easter day. I gathered them all around, all five, six or seven...whoever was old enough...and began reading:
"My son,( I have six!) if you will receive my sayings,
And treasure my commandments within you,
Make your ear attentive to wisdom,
Incline your heart to understanding;
For if you cry for discernment.
Lift your voice for understanding;
If you seek her as silver.
And search for her as for hidden treasures;
Then you will discern the fear of the Lord
And discover the knowledge of God."
Proverbs 2:1-5 "...that is Christ Himself, in whom are hidden
all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge."
Colossians 2:2,3

I would then hand them one clue and send them off! We had quite a bit of property then, and they had to trudge far and wide, up and down, over and under, and in and out of numerous places to find the next clue...until FINALLY... the last clue was found that pointed them to where the treasure was hidden. Many snowy and rainy days were met with eager treasure hunters seeking that prize. They had their sights set on finding what they deemed a treasure worth the trudge. And it WAS most of the time....I even tied money up in a tree one year!
I'm sure you get the point by now. How much effort do we expend when it comes to seeking the eternal treasures? Who or what gets the best of us? Are we as excited about finding new hidden truths from God as my kids were on those hunts? That was what I wanted to impress upon them while they were young so when they grew older, they would not depart from it!
Let's retrieve that child-like enthusiasm that is required in order to enter the Kingdom of God...Christ's rulership in our lives!

  3. Nice post - spiritual & fun! I used to do treasure hunt teas with my kids & their friends - each bit (drinks crisps sanys cakes etc) hidden in a different place with clues. Once I even hid one in the vacuum cleaner bag - they've never forgotten that one!
