JULY 15: Blog the Change for Animals!

Blog the Change

January 15th, April 15th, July 15th and October 15th are Blog the Change for Animals days! Highlight those who help animals, give, blog, tweet, or do whatever you can think of to encourage others to care for our furry friends!

Here is one woman who has done that...sometimes all alone. She tirelessly cares for dozens and dozens of feral cats that come to her little farm home. She catches those she can to neuter them then releases them. She does everything possible to tame the little ones for adoption. She is a talented photographer and has a blog that 'tells it like it is' in the feral world. Some posts are cute, some are funny, some are sad. But she tells about their lives in hopes of bringing light to their need and love in the form of a home for them.
Chriss...thank you for your beautiful, real life blog and your unending efforts to change the lives of the kitties you so love.

Chriss posts on her blog regularly. This is the July 14th post. Please visit and encourage her efforts! She has a donation button to right. Those who work tirelessly loving others get tired sometimes! Send your kudos her way!

Two tabby feral cats, just relaxing and napping after breakfast. This is their most contented time.

I took too much time off for my birthday, probably, so I haven't posted much since the weekend. It happens. The kitties still get attention every day but I don't always schedule time to take pictures of them. This is also coyote season and I worry about how many cats we will lose. The most heartbreaking, of course, are the ones that were tamed as feral kittens and put up for adoption - but nobody adopted them. We lose some of those precious pets every year. :( It's so sad. I do what I can but I can't guard them 24/7 - if only I could. I wish there were more homes because I have several kitties that could be adopted and kept safe instead of living in danger among the colony.

Vintage Upholstery Pillows

I have had this piece of beautiful vintage upholstery fabric for a loooong time now. I just kept it with the thought..."some day".
This week I made a pillow cover with these crafty little cats trying to reach a bird. Silly felines. After completing the cover, I went to my 'stash' to look for a backing. And lo and behold! There it was! The perfect backing. It was a sage green and cream two sided piece, very silky soft. It was an upholstery sample that had an old tag with 1962 handwritten on it. There were several little samples stapled to it as well, all very pretty colors.

It turned out to be the perfect green to match the green kitty on the front.

After completing the cat pillow cover, I had a strip of the material left and all the little colored samples. Not wanting to let any of this lovely fabric go to waste, I made a dog counterpart, with a nice looooong little doxie.   Such funny dogs they are. I added a zipper closure to this one since it was an odd shape, and made a liner filled with polyfil that can be removed.

I do love my fabric stash! And all the antique shops and thrift stores that help provide these goodies!

Newest shop! Illustrating all those verification words!

Well....I have done it again. Opened another shop on Etsy! I must be addicted. This is my fifth. But this one was just begging to be created! You know all those ridiculous verification words you must type in for many blogs? Paddlypat, dangu, tative, and my fave, ubolowle! So many funny words! My mind insists that they be defined each time I see them, and almost instantly something comes into focus of what this must mean. So I thought I would do everyone the favor of actually giving all these poor neglected words a place in life! The Verification Cat defines and illustrates these in ACEO form. Each one is colorful and original. TVC, as I call him, gives an accurate definition, illustrates it, then gives a sample sentence at the bottom. He would also love to have you pass along your own odd verification words so he can add to his collection. Here's a few samples of what you'll find at The Verification Cat shop on Etsy! Just click on any one of them to be taken to the listing in the shop. SO put on some UBOLOWLE, have a seat ( but not for too long, lest ABLUXES consume you!) and enjoy your visit!

Please feel free to leave your 'VERI' words for TVC in the comments or through the Etsy shop.

The Pillow Sham from the Hand Created Fabric

If you remember my previous post about the fabric I made, the general consensus was that a pillow sham would be a good idea. So this is the final product! It was really fun and I think more hand painted fabric creations are on the way!  It is now in my Catcalls shop!

It's a MerMew!

I am a happy member of the Etsy for Animals team. Every month there is a new challenge theme that members may enter. July's theme is “In the Deep Blue... a great month to display Oceanic & Sea-fluenced products"
Well, I was kind of at a loss, as well as busy with other things, so put it off.  But yesterday I told myself I MUST get SOMETHING in!  So as I sat outside and ate my lunch, this is what emerged from the depths - of somewhere! So I drew her up, pieced her together, stuffed her and TADA!

MerMew!

MerMew is all cotton with a felt face, embroidered with that simple innocent face.

She even has a tail because...well...because mews have tails!

MerMew is presently guarding my Catcalls shop!
